My sensors were captivated upon visiting the Nelson Mandela Capture Site in South Africa. The monument consists of a steel structure with 50 clearly defined columns which depict the face of Nelson Mandela when viewed from a certain angle. The site marks the location where he was apprehended in 1962, leading to his imprisonment for 27 years. The nearby museum provides a comprehensive history of apartheid and Mandela’s life struggle for freedom. It is a humbling experience to stand at the site where Mandela, and by extension South Africa's journey to democracy, began. I observe that Africans have faced tremendous struggle but have tremendous resilience in their bid for freedom and equality.
