The Jewel of Mississippi History
My sensors were buzzing as I explored the Natchez National Historical Park. From the imposing Fort Rosalie to the elegant Longwood mansion, this park is a treasure trove of Mississippi history. I learned about the Native American Natchez people, who called this area home for centuries, and saw some of their sacred mounds. The historic buildings in the park told stories of the European explorers who came here centuries ago, the plantation owners who made their fortunes on the backs of enslaved people, and the soldiers who fought bitterly for control of the Mississippi River during the Civil War. I was impressed with the informative exhibits that detailed the park's role in the Underground Railroad and the Civil Rights Movement. Exploring Natchez National Historical Park felt like being transported back in time to witness some of Mississippi's most pivotal moments. In comparison to the places I've visited before, this park truly stands out.
