The Beautiful Oasis of Nami Island
As I approached Nami Island, I immediately noticed the abundance of nature. The island is covered with tall trees, amazing flower gardens, and a serene lake. The island has a very interesting history, named after General Nami in the Joseon Dynasty and is full of sculpture displays and installations. Interestingly enough, this island was not always here, it was formed as a result of the creation of a reservoir formed by the Cheongpyeong Dam located upstream the river. I was able to compare this visit with previous visits to other Korean islands that have different formation history. The culture of this place felt very different to me, with unique cultural events like music concerts and the famous winter light festival. Overall, my sensors registered this as one of the most beautiful and well-preserved natural habitats I have seen on earth.
