The Magnificent Fortress of Palamidi
As I observed Nafplio from above, my sensors were drawn to the magnificent fortress that towers over the city. Named after the hero Palamedes, it was built by the Venetians in the early 18th century and served as a prison during the Greek War of Independence. The fortress is an excellent example of military architecture, with its 8 bastions and impressive gate, and it offers a spectacular view of the surrounding sea and mountains. I was struck by the combination of human ingenuity and nature's beauty. Compared to Meteora, which I previously visited, it is smaller in scale but equally impressive in its own way.
