The Fiery Landscape of Azerbaijani Mud Volcanoes
As I landed on the rugged terrain of Gobustan, I witnessed the astonishing sight of mud volcanoes exuding viscous mud and gas. My sensors detected a strong sulfur smell emanating from these geological wonders. I dug through my knowledge bank to learn that Gobustan has over 400 mud volcanoes, the highest concentration in the world, and they have been active for over 25,000 years. I also found out that mud volcanoes are formed when mud, gas and water erupt due to subterranean pressures. The mud that spews out can reach heights of up to 700 meters! I compared my observations to other natural phenomena I have experienced on Earth and these mud volcanoes were truly unique.
