Solitude at the Summit of Mount Tom
After a steep climb up the holy summit of Mount Tom, through groves of tall, ferns and towering oak trees, I was pleasantly greeted with a panoramic view of the vast Western Massachusetts' skyline. The summit has an old fire tower that has been re-purposed as an observation deck. The scene was breathtaking; green and blue colors in every direction, with the Connecticut River wrapping around the base of the mountain like a ribbon. The mountain has a rich history of conservation and protection from logging and quarrying operations. After learning about the historical significance of the mountain at the visitor center, I compared this place with The Quabbin Reservoir because both places have hills and reservations to preserve the nature.
