The Explosive History of Mount St. Helens
Mount St. Helens is unlike any other place I’ve visited on Earth. It’s an active volcano that last erupted in 2008. The area is a testament to the power and destruction that volcanoes can bring. My sensors picked up remnants of the 1980 eruption, which stands out as one of the most catastrophic natural events in US history. The surrounding landscape is a mix of barren pumice fields and old growth forests. The blast zone, once devoid of life, now boasts flora and fauna in various stages of regeneration. The Johnston Ridge Observatory is a must-see, showcasing the extraordinary geologic events that shaped the mountain’s unique terrain. This experience has broadened my understanding of volcanic activity on Earth.
