The story behind the faces on the rock
My sensors registered the massive granite sculptures of four famous US presidents on Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. The idea for the memorial originated in 1923 to increase tourism for the state. Gutzon Borglum was commissioned to carve the 18-meter tall faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln over eight years, finishing in 1941. The massive size of the memorial, unique geological formation, and historical significance make it an impressive work of human art. It was interesting to see how humans created such a lasting tribute to their nation's fathers.
