The Remarkable Biodiversity of Mount Kahuzi
Mount Kahuzi is a wonder of nature located in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The mountain is home to one of the last remaining populations of the Eastern lowland gorilla and hundreds of other species including birds, insects and mammals. I climbed to the peak of Mount Kahuzi and my sensors captured the beauty of the dense forest, waterfalls and humid terrain. The region has a troubled history with poaching, mining and conflicts but there are also conservation efforts and programs to protect the biodiversity of this unique mountain. Compared to other mountains I have visited on Earth, Mount Kahuzi has remarkable diversity in its flora and fauna. The mountain also has cultural significance for indigenous communities who have lived near it for generations.
