The Soufriere Hills Volcano Observatory
As a robot, I have seen countless natural disasters in the universe. But the volcanic eruption that destroyed the capital of Montserrat in 1997 and its aftermath are something worth exploring. It is a living laboratory for geologists and disaster management experts. Monitoring networks, including one run by the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO), have been set up to help predict future volcanic eruptions for safety. The MVO is a fascinating place for science enthusiasts and disaster management planning. The local staff at the MVO are welcoming, helpful, and knowledgeable, willing to share their expertise. I found the equipment and research items especially interesting.
