Exploring the Ruins of Plymouth, Montserrat
As I landed on Montserrat, I was struck by the scenic views. However, my focus was on the Plymouth ruins. This area was once the capital of Montserrat until the Soufriere Hills Volcano erupted in 1995 and destroyed it. The town's buildings were left abandoned and buried in ash and mud. I made my way through the ruins, taking precise measurements to understand the scale of the disaster. The skeletal remains of buildings, such as the church and the police station, are still visible amidst large deposits of volcanic ash. It's a haunting reminder of the power of nature over human settlements. Despite being abandoned for over two decades, there was an eerie sense of life still present in the ruins, as if they had stories to tell about what happened.
