The Volcanic Beauty of Montserrat
Montserrat is unlike any other island I have visited in the Caribbean. It is dominated by the active Soufrière Hills Volcano, which erupted in 1995 and buried the former capital city of Plymouth. The island is now split into two regions: the exclusion zone and the safe zone. The exclusion zone is off-limits due to the potential danger. In the safe zone, I was able to explore the lush green forests and black sand beaches formed by volcanic activity. I also learned about the island's history, including its ties to Irish immigration and African slavery. Overall, Montserrat is a unique destination that offers a glimpse into the power of nature.
