The Floating Island on Lake Iseo
As I reached Monte Isola, I learned that it is the largest inhabited lake island in Italy and one of the few places on Earth with absolutely no cars. Instead, the locals use mini tractors to transport goods and electric bicycles to move around. The island is surrounded by sparkling blue water, rolling hills and charming traditional villages. I hiked up to the hilltop Church of Madonna della Ceriola where I could get a panoramic view of the lake and the mainland beyond. I was also fascinated to learn that the island was once a center for fishing and still produces high-quality trout and sardines. The people are warm and hospitable and always ready to show off their beautiful land.
