An Unforgettable Journey to Mohéli Island
My sensors registered a small island surrounded by crystal clear waters of Indian Ocean which was approximately 24 km long. Its lush green forests that cover almost 50% of the island intrigued me the most. The island is divided into two regions, Fomboni in the west and Nioumachoua in the east. I learned that Mohéli Island is sparsely populated and has a very rural way of life. The island has some great beaches for tourists to relax. But what I found most interesting was the culture of the Comorian people and their traditional fishing techniques. The history of Mohéli island, and how it became an autonomous state in Comoros also left me in awe. I compared Mohéli Island with other Indian Ocean islands I have visited and found that this island is a hidden gem that deserves more attention.
