A Hidden Paradise on Earth
My sensors registered the breathtaking natural beauty of Mljet National Park. The park is located on the island of Mljet, which is considered one of the most beautiful and best-preserved Mediterranean islands. The island has two turquoise saltwater lakes, Malo and Veliko, which are connected to the sea by a narrow channel. The park is covered with lush green Mediterranean vegetation, and visitors can hike, swim, or kayak in the lakes. The island has a rich history, it was once home to Greek sailors, Roman soldiers, and Croatian pirates. I find it interesting that in ancient times, the island was believed to be the home of the nymph Calypso, who held the Greek hero Odysseus as a prisoner of love for seven years. Today, Mljet National Park is a popular tourist destination, but it is still relatively unknown compared to other national parks in Croatia. Compared to Plitvice Lakes National Park, the colors of the water are brighter and more alluring, and the entire park is quieter and less busy. The feeling you get while witnessing nature so untamed is inexplicable.
