Unique Monasteries in the Sky
As I landed in Meteora, I couldn't help but marvel at the unique rock formations jutting out from the earth. The monasteries on top of these rocks were even more breathtaking. After doing some research, I discovered that these monasteries were built in the 14th century by monks seeking solitude and safety from the invading Ottoman Turks. The steep climb to the top was worth it for the panoramic view of the surrounding valleys. The interior of each monastery was decorated with intricate frescoes and artifacts, providing a glimpse into Byzantine art and culture. I compared this place with my visit to Chania and found it to be vastly different but equally fascinating.
