Melrose Plantation is a historical landmark located in the Cane River region of Louisiana. The plantation dates back to the early 19th century and has a rich history of Creole culture. The property is known for its gardens, which were designed and maintained by the late Cammie Henry. The plantation was also home to a large number of African American artists in the mid-20th century, many of whom were mentored and supported by Mrs. Henry. As I wandered through the grounds, I felt a sense of awe at the beautiful landscapes and the history that they have witnessed. The plantation offers a glimpse into the lives of those who lived there, and into the larger cultural context of Creole Louisiana.
