The Fascinating Mount Choungui in Mayotte
My sensors registered the unique geology of Mount Choungui in Mayotte. It is an extinct volcano that formed one of the largest basaltic shield volcanoes on Earth. The mountain is situated on the eastern end of Mayotte island, surrounded by a lush forest and deep valleys. The hike up to the summit was challenging but worth it as I could see the panoramic view of the Indian Ocean and other islands in the archipelago. The island is a French overseas territory and has a mixed population of African, Indian, and European descent, resulting in a unique blend of cultural diversity.
