Rediscovering Matera: A Journey through Time
As I landed on the rugged landscape of Matera, I immediately noticed the unique Sassi - ancient districts that are carved into the rocky cliffs. The stunning architecture is not the only reason to visit. The town is rich in history and culture, tracing back over 6,000 years. I spent hours exploring the underground cisterns, learning about the region's once-thriving agricultural industry. The panoramic views of the city's skyline with its maze-like alleys and streets are truly captivating. The place has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1993. I felt grateful for the opportunity to visit this impressive place from Earth's history.
