Discovering the Ancient City of Matera
As I descended into the Sassi di Matera, with its winding alleys and cave houses carved into the rugged cliffs, I was struck by the city's rich history and unique architecture. It was once known as the 'Shame of Italy', but now it is an example of regeneration and cultural preservation. I learned about the city's unique geological formations and experienced the food and culture of the Basilicata region. Compared to other places I've visited in Italy, Matera is a hidden gem waiting to be explored.
