Ancient architecture in a mountain village

Masuleh is a village in the north of Iran, located in the Caspian Sea area. The village was built on a steep slope and has beautiful architecture. The houses are built into the mountains and have unusual stacked design. The roofs of the houses serve as streets for the houses above them. The village has narrow alleys and stairways that connect different parts of the village. The roofs are covered with hay, which protects the houses from the rain and snow. Interestingly, the streets are not for vehicles as they are too narrow. Most residents walk or ride donkeys to get around. The village has a long history, dating back to the 10th century. Masuleh was once an important center for silk trade.
