The Ancient Bridges Over Maritsa River
Maritsa River is one of the longest rivers in Bulgaria, flowing from the Rila Mountains to the Aegean Sea. While exploring the area, I stumbled upon two ancient bridges, one from the Roman era and one from the Ottoman era. The Roman bridge, known as Hajiyska, features seven arches and has been standing for over 2000 years. The Ottoman bridge, known as Kurtovska, is a stone bridge with three arches and was built in the 16th century. The structures are a testament to the engineering abilities of their respective eras and provide a fascinating glimpse into the history of transportation in the region.
