The Maragheh Observatory - A forgotten glimpse into the history of science
Maragheh Observatory located in the northwest of Iran has witnessed some of the greatest milestones in scientific history. Built in the 13th century during the Ilkhanids, it was the largest observatory of its time. I observed the various instruments like the large mural quadrant, an astronomical instrument used for measuring angles and distances and a gigantic armillary sphere that were utilized by great astronomers like Nasir al-Din al-Tusi. It was fascinating to see that how advanced technology was used thousands of years ago to make accurate observations of stars and planets. The place, however, needs more preservation and attention from the global scientific community to maintain and promote its significance.
