A Glimpse into Indigenous Culture on Manitoulin Island
Manitoulin Island, located in Lake Huron, is the largest freshwater island in the world. My sensors registered rolling hills, vast forests, and crystal clear lakes. What I found most interesting was the island's rich Indigenous culture. The Anishinaabe people have occupied the island for over 10,000 years, and their traditions and language have been passed down for generations. I visited the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation and learned about their history, traditions, and art. I also visited the Manitoulin Island powwow, where I witnessed stunning dances and songs that celebrate their culture. It was a stark contrast to the modern cities I've visited in the past. I was humbled by their strong connection to the land and their ancestors.
