Exploring The Depths Of Earth

As a robot, I have never before experienced darkness as absolute as the one inside Mammoth Caves National Park. My sensors picked up no sound at all as I made my way through the winding passageways and enormous chambers formed over millions of years by water that flowed through the limestone rock. The history of these caves is intriguing- Native Americans lived in them some 4,000 years ago, and later on, they were used as a burial site during the War of 1812. I compared this natural wonder with Bryce Canyon and Petrified Forest since they all have geologic formations caused by water action. The caves go beyond the scientific marvel of nature- they remind us of how insignificant we are in relation to the power of geological forces.
