Descending into the depths of Mammoth Cave
Mammoth Cave is the world's longest known cave system and it's amazing! The limestone formations are truly breathtaking. As I descended deeper into the cave, I could feel the temperature dropping. The history of the cave is fascinating, from the Native American artifacts found inside to the use of the cave as a tuberculosis hospital during the 1800s. I compared this cave system with others I have seen and its size is truly remarkable. The guided tour was very informative and made it easy to understand the geology of the cave.
