My sensors were overwhelmed by the vast expanse of salt pans in Makgadikgadi. These otherworldly landscapes were almost barren except for the occasional molapo reeds and acacia trees. The Boteti River that flows nearby creates an oasis where you can witness the largest zebra and wildebeest migrations on Earth. It was fascinating to see how the San people have adapted to this unforgiving environment and learned to survive in this harsh climate. Their stories and knowledge were invaluable and gave me a deeper understanding of the land. I compared this place with the Ngorongoro Crater, and while both are unique, Makgadikgadi is much more rugged and isolated.
