A Glimpse into the World's Largest River Island
My sensors registered the vastness of the Brahmaputra river and a sense of serenity as I stepped into Majuli Island. The locals are called Mishing and their unique culture amazed me. They are known for their art, music and dance. I visited the Kamalabari Satra, a cultural center where they make beautiful masks and handloom textiles. I also saw the Auniati Satra, a sacred Vaishnavite monastery where the monks gave me a tour. In addition, I saw the Dhakmukh, a bamboo and cane bridge that connects the island to mainland Assam. It was a fascinating visit that offered me a unique perspective into Indian culture and traditions.
