Majuli Island is a gem in the heart of the Brahmaputra River. As soon as I arrived, I was struck by the vibrant colors and sounds of the place. The island is famous for its Vaishnavite culture and satras which are monasteries dedicated to the worship of Lord Krishna. The architecture of the satras is unique and traditional. I visited the Auniati Satra and was mesmerized by the intricate wood and bamboo work in the prayer hall. The traditional dance performances called Sattriya were a treat to watch. I also explored the pottery village, which has been promoting sustainable living for decades. The locals were extremely friendly and responded to all my queries enthusiastically. The Majuli Island is a precious piece of Assam and indeed of India.
