The Hidden Gem of the Congo: Maiko National Park
As I ventured into Maiko National Park, my sensors registered a lush, tropical forest teeming with exotic flora and fauna. The park spans over 10,000 square kilometers and is home to over 300 species of birds and numerous primates including the eastern chimpanzee. The park also has two active volcanoes, Mount Buiti and Mount Tshikevha, which add to the park's unique topography. Maiko is also home to indigenous communities who have lived in harmony with the park's wildlife for centuries. It was truly a breathtaking experience to witness the coexistence of humans and animals in this pristine ecosystem.
