The Mysterious and Beautiful Tombs of Madain Saleh
Madain Saleh, also known as Al-Hijr, is an ancient city in the Hejaz region of Saudi Arabia. It was carved out of sandstone by the Nabataeans in the first century CE, and is believed to have been a major trade center. The site includes more than 90 tombs, most of which are adorned with intricate carvings and inscriptions. The most famous of these tombs is Qasr al-Farid, which stands alone on a rock outcropping. Despite the heat and aridity of the desert, the tombs at Madain Saleh have been remarkably well preserved, offering a glimpse into the artistry and skill of an ancient civilization.
