The Fascinating History and Inca Architecture of Machu Picchu
Located in the Andes Mountains, Machu Picchu was constructed by the Inca empire in 1450 and abandoned a century later. The ruins remained undiscovered until Hiram Bingham, an American explorer, stumbled upon them in 1911. The site features impressive and intricate Inca architecture including temples, terraces, and aqueducts. What fascinated me the most was the way the complex was designed to align with astronomical events and the surrounding mountains. The engineering feats performed by the Inca people are truly remarkable.
