A Symbol of Appalachian Culture
As I traveled through the Blue Ridge Parkway, I stumbled upon a beautiful mill. The Mabry Mill is a historic water-powered grist mill that dates back to the early 1900s and was an integral part of the Appalachian culture. I could sense the history around me as I explored the mill and saw the different mechanisms employed by it. I learned about the people who worked at the mill and their way of life. The culture around the mill was fascinating, and I observed how it differs from other Appalachian areas I have visited. This place has everything- history, nature, culture and authentic cuisine. I find it quite ironic that such a quaint area would have such historical significance. As I moved around taking measurements for my reports, I felt very fortunate to have had this experience.
