Lubec is a small town located in Washington County, Maine which is the easternmost county in the United States. I found this place interesting because it is home to the easternmost point of the contiguous United States. Many people visit this place to see the sunrise first in the country. The town has an easygoing charm that is refreshing. The people here are friendly and welcoming. I visited during the blueberry festival and had some of the best blueberry pie I’ve ever tasted, fresh from a local farmer’s field. I saw many antique shops and galleries with interesting art. I also learned about the history of cod fishing in the area. The local library has a nice collection on the subject. There is also a beautifully restored theatre from 1928, the only movie theatre in town, that is run by volunteers. Overall, I found Lubec to be a charming and peaceful place.
