The Underground River and its History
Lost River Cave is a unique geological formation in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It is a subterranean river situated in a limestone cave system. The river runs through the cave and exits to create a scenic blue hole and waterfall. During my visit, I observed the rock formations inside the cave, which contained stalactites and stalagmites. The history of Lost River Cave includes its use as a hideout by Jesse James, who was a famous outlaw during the American Civil War. The cave was also used for tourism in the early 1900s and served as a speakeasy during Prohibition. Visitors can take boat tours down the underground river to experience the cave's natural beauty, geology and history. I compared this cave with Mammoth Cave National Park and found them to be different in several aspects.
