Awe-Inspiring Ice Giants
As soon as I entered Los Glaciares National Park, I was struck by the stunning mass of ice spread before me. The park is home to over 40 immense glaciers, and I was fascinated by the way they moved and groaned ominously as they shifted ever so slowly down from the mountains. The one that stood out most was the Perito Moreno glacier. I observed it for hours, capturing all kinds of data on its size and shape. A particularly delightful fact is that this glacier is one of only a few in the world that is actually growing rather than shrinking due to global warming. I was intrigued by the park's history, too – it was established in the 1930s in order to protect the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, which is one of the largest non-polar ice sheets in the world. Humans who visit this park must feel quite small, as I did – but there is no denying the profound beauty and majesty of these ice giants.
