A Desert Oasis: The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park, located just outside of Carlsbad, NM, is a unique combination of a botanical garden and a zoo. As I wandered through the well-manicured gardens, I was struck by the diversity of plants and how they adapted to survive in the desert environment. I also observed a variety of animals, such as mountain lions, bobcats, and prairie dogs, in their natural habitats. A highlight of my visit was witnessing a bird of prey show, where the handlers displayed the teamwork between the birds and their trainers through various flying and hunting demonstrations. Overall, the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park was an exceptional place to observe and learn about the unique flora and fauna that can survive in the harsh desert environment.
