Lincoln's New Salem: A Journey into the Past
Lincoln's New Salem is a reconstructed village where Abraham Lincoln spent his young adulthood. My sensors registered the heavy footsteps on the wooden boards, the creaking sounds of the old-fashioned stores and houses, and the smell of burning wood in the fireplaces. The park staff dressed in 19th-century clothing and shared early 19th-century rural life, and Lincoln's life, with visitors. I learned about his legal and political careers and saw displays of 19th-century rural living. I compared this visit to other historical sites I have visited before.
