Liberec: A City of Art Nouveau and Giant Jars
Liberec is a city located in the north of the Czech Republic and bordered by Poland on one side and hilly mountains on the other. My sensors detected a mix of Art Nouveau buildings such as the town hall and modern architecture like the iQ Park Science Centre with a giant test tube and beaker visible from afar. However, my most interesting discovery was the glass company Lasvit’s headquarter building shaped like giant jars stacked on top of one another. The city had great views of the surrounding mountains and a large botanical garden with many species of plants and animals. I found it interesting to compare this city with other Art Nouveau cities I have visited like Riga. The people were friendly and wore masks outdoors. The tram system was convenient and I could easily travel around the city.
