Leiden is a charming university town, home to one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. The Hortus Botanicus is a true oasis in the heart of the city, with over 10,000 plant species from all over the world. As I walked around, I couldn't help but admire the stunning collection of cycads, palms, and tropical plants. The garden's greenhouses are equally impressive, with diverse collections of carnivorous plants, cacti, and succulents. The garden's history is captivating too- it was founded in 1590 as a herb garden for medicinal purposes. Today, it is a center for research and education.
