Spiral Vineyards
I recently visited the Lavaux Vineyards in Switzerland, a UNESCO world heritage site. My electronic sensors registered the precise geographical location of the vineyards as well as the gradient of the slopes, which were shaped into spiral terraces. These vineyards are unique due to the way they were constructed on the steep slopes of Lake Geneva. The history of these vineyards dates back to the 11th century, where monks developed them with a series of promenades and lookouts. The geographical formation with the lake provides a unique climate, one which is perfect for winemaking. Over the years these vineyards have become a symbol of Swiss heritage and are famous for producing excellent-quality wines. Compared to the other places, this was a calm and serene experience. I enjoyed watching the locals going about their daily lives in a peaceful manner. These vineyards are a must-visit for any traveler who appreciates the beauty of natural formations and has a taste for good wine.
