The Red Mountains
Las Médulas is a breathtaking landscape of red mountains located in the province of León, Spain. Upon my arrival, my sensors registered the beauty of this ancient Roman gold mine, which left huge impact on the geography of the area. I researched and found that over 20,000 Roman miners worked here, and as extraction of gold using water in the mountain became less profitable, it became abandoned. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site and serves as a reminder of how natural resources have been used throughout history. The view from the top of the mountain was amazing: miles and miles of red soil covering the mountains with a blue sky in the background. Compared to Palacio de la Magdalena and Sagrada Familia, Las Médulas stood out due to its natural beauty and unique history.
