The otherworldly landscape of Las Médulas
Las Médulas is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the region of Castile and León. It is a beautiful and unique landscape of red mountains and valleys - all the result of Roman gold mining activity that took place in this area over 2,000 years ago. Today, visitors can enjoy the breathtaking views and take guided tours to learn more about the history of the area. I found it fascinating to compare the geology of this place to others I have visited. The flora and fauna here are also unique, with species that are adapted to the unique conditions of the area.
