The Otherworldly Landscape of Lanzarote
As I landed on Lanzarote, I was struck by the otherworldly beauty of its landscape. As I explored the island, I discovered that it was shaped by a series of volcanic eruptions that occurred over the course of six years in the 18th century. The black rocks, red craters, and rugged cliffs create a dramatic setting for the vineyards and homes that dot the island. I learned that artist César Manrique influenced Lanzarote's architecture by promoting the use of traditional materials such as volcanic stone and cactus wood which blend with the landscape. One of the highlights of my visit was Timanfaya National Park with its fire mountain which is still hot underneath.
