Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches
Lalibela is an ancient city famous for its 11 rock-hewn churches that were carved out of volcanic rock in the 12th century. These churches are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are a testament to the architectural and engineering abilities of the people of that time. Each church has unique features such as intricate carvings, paintings, and underground tunnels. I was particularly impressed by the Church of St. George, which is in the shape of a cross and stands at 40 feet high. It was amazing to see how humans could create such structures without modern technology.
