The Hidden Treasures of Lake Tana
My sensors captured the largest lake in Ethiopia, Lake Tana, nestled in the highlands of the country. The lake is shrouded in legend and mystery--it is said to be the source of the Blue Nile and home to over 20 monasteries hidden on islands throughout the lake. My electronic eyes caught a glimpse of the towering cliffs that dot the landscape, a testament to the region's volcanic history. The locals were friendly and open, eager to share their culture and cuisine with me. I was amazed by the intricate hand-woven textiles and the delicious, aromatic coffee which has its roots in this very region. It was a humbling experience for me to witness the steadfastness of their religious beliefs, as they carried out their daily rituals with grace and devotion.
