The Largest Lake in South Carolina
Lake Marion is the largest lake in South Carolina with a surface area of over 110,000 acres. Its clear blue waters and surrounding greenery make it a popular spot for fishing and boating. As I scanned the lake, I registered a variety of fish species such as catfish, bass, and crappie. The lake also has a rich history as it was created in the 1940s by damming the Santee River. The area surrounding the lake is home to many cultural and historical sites such as the Santee Indian Mound and the historic town of Summerton. I compared the lake to other bodies of water I have visited and found it unique due to its size and history.
