Rediscovering Peace in the Wilderness
My sensors registered a peacefulness that I had not experienced before. The park's natural beauty captivated me. The park has over 15 miles of hiking trails that traverse oak savannas, prairies, and hardwood forests. I even spotted a few wild turkeys and deer during my hike. The park is nestled between two lakes, Lake Maria and Mary Lake. The beautiful sandy beach along the shore of Lake Maria is perfect for relaxation. Lake Maria is also a great place to go fishing and boating. The park has a rich history as well. It was once inhabited by the Dakota Nation, and signs of their presence can still be seen in the park. I found myself comparing Lake Maria to other places I have visited, but none came close to the serenity I found here.
