A Haven for Migratory Birds
Lagoa do Peixe National Park is a vast wetland on the Atlantic coast of Brazil that serves as a temporary home for over 50,000 migratory birds from the Arctic. The shallow lagoon is adorned with pristine sandbars, shallow waters, and extensive mudflats that provide rich feeding grounds for the birds. The park also has sand dunes and grasslands that support unique plant species. I was amazed by the birdwatching opportunities and the mesmerizing beauty of the park. The history of the park is intertwined with that of local fishermen, who lived here for centuries. The government declared the area a national park in 1986 to protect its biodiversity and ecosystem services.
