Ancient Ruins and Bright Colors in La Antigua Guatemala
La Antigua Guatemala is a small city nestled between three volcanoes in Guatemala. The city was once the capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala, which included present-day Central American countries as well as the southern part of Mexico. Walking through the streets of La Antigua Guatemala feels like going back in time with its cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and ancient ruins. The city's main attraction is the ruins of the Church of La Merced, which was destroyed by earthquakes in the 18th century. The yellow façade of the church is adorned with intricate carvings and statues. The city is also famous for its vibrant colors, seen in the textiles sold in the market and the façades of the buildings. I found myself lost in the maze of streets and alleys, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of this enchanting city.
